The South Wales Male Choir

Côr Meibion De Cymru

Côr Meibion De Cymru (The South Wales Male Choir) is one of the largest in the principality. The choir is proud of its reputation for harmonic singing from a wide repertoire of Welsh tunes, songs from the shows, selections  from opera and popular songs.

“Since the beginning of time humans have known the value of music. It has been used to encourage friendship, fight enemies, celebrate, congratulate or commiserate. Men have chanted to maintain strength, danced in triumph, wailed in sadness, yet principally to express joy, love and worship”. In the Reformation, when Puritans were against the use of music in worship, the German theologian, Martin Luther - not noted for levity, said ”Music is the gift of God. It can drive away the devil and make people happy”. These gentlemen songsters - together with the wonderful support, guidance and inspiration of their musical director and accompanist, Elaine and Siân - join in wishing you many magical musical memories.

Bishop Ivor Rees
CMDC would like to pass sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of the former Bishop of St David's, Ivor Rees, who died on January 11th, aged 85. Bishop Ivor was chaplain of CMDC for many years.
Born in Llanelli, he served with the Royal Navy in World War II and was Dean of Bangor Cathedral.
A private family funeral will be held, with a memorial at St David's Cathedral at a later date.
Bishop Ivor was ordained in 1953 and began his ministry as a curate in Pembrokeshire, where his parishes included Fishguard, Llangathen, Slebech and Uzmaston, near Haverfordwest.
He then moved north to serve as vicar of Llangollen and rector of Wrexham before being appointed a canon of St Asaph Cathedral and later Dean of Bangor Cathedral.
He returned to St David's as assistant bishop before becoming its 125th bishop in 1991, retiring in 1995.
