The choir was formed in 1982, to bring together men from a multitude of different choirs, from every valley, and coastal plain, in the East, South and West of Wales. There is also a contingent of ‘exiles’ from Bristol and Wantage. Some Choristers regularly travel from as far as Southampton and Bedford to attend rehearsals in Wales.

The Choir has already toured on many occasions to the USA, Mexico, Canada, France, the Benelux Countries, Monaco, Australia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Gibraltar.

The choir has sung in many prestigious cathedrals, including St. Davids, Pembrokeshire,  Llandaff, Brecon, Hereford, Winchester, Salisbury, and Southwark in London and Romsey Abbey.  

 

In Europe, the choir have been privileged to sing   in the cathedrals of Chartres, Notre Dame, Amiens, Ypres and Hertogenboschand and further afield in  Calgary, Canada, Brisbane in Australia and the amazing Crystal Cathedral in Los Angeles and San Diego.

 

Concerts have been given in the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, The Colston Hall in Bristol, The Congress Hall in Ottawa and the Great Hall of Parliament in Canberra.

 

In February 2008, the choir entered the inaugural Majestic Male Voice Choir Competition in Torquay, Devon where twelve choirs took part in the event. This is the first competition the choir has entered  and everyone was delighted and thrilled when they were awarded first place.

Also in 2008 a party of 160 choristers, wives and supporters toured eastern Canada, with concerts in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec City.

2009 saw major concerts for the choir in York Minster, Winchester Cathedral and St David’s Cathedral.

In 2010 the choir returned to St Albans Cathedral, again in aid of The Willow Foundation. The choir also visited Brecon Cathedral,Llandaff Cathedral and continued the  annual pilgrimage to St David’s Cathedral.

Another busy year in 2011. Concerts have already been held in Oxford Town Hall, Llandaff Cathedral, Norwich Cathedral and St. Davids Cathedral. The choir has just returned from cruising on SS Balmoral, enjoying a visit to the Baltic States - concerts were held on board, in Tallinn and St. Petersburg.  

Plans are already being made for 2012. The choir will return for concerts in Llandaff Cathedral, Dorchester and Romsey Abbey.

In 2008 the choir visited St Albans in Hertfordshire to sing in the cathedral to support The Willow Foundation. The foundation strives to create a unique and unforgettable day that is tailored to the needs of seriously ill young adults from 16-40 years of age. From its early days the choir’s patron was HRH The Prince of Wales. The first president was Viscount Tonypandy, later to be succeeded by Lord Gordon Parry of Neyland. Our current president is Wyn Calvin MBE, OSt.J.
